Gadget of the day: Pianocade

Jonathan Guberman, creator of the Automatypewriter, the Syntheslicer, the Pactuator clockwork Pac-man, and the interactive Portal turret plushie, has unveiled his latest project: the Pianocade.

The Pianocade is a chiptunes synthesizer and MIDI controller made from arcade buttons and custom electronics. It is open-source, programmable, and highly hackable. The synthesis electronics emulate the sound hardware of vintage arcade games and consoles to produce an incredible retro sound, and the arcade buttons give it an amazing look and feel. It's easy to play for a beginner, versatile for a pro, and a lot of fun for everyone.
