Get Your Gun is a 2-piece band from Denmark. Andreas Westmark Simon Westmark play this year's United Islands of Prague festival. We chatted with both of them.
You are siblings... What are the challenges of such a situation?
A: Brothers just fight - we know which buttons to press and the "Big brother - little brother" ghost will probably always hunt us from time to time, but when we're in sync, we're hard to beat.
What is the story behind the The Worrying Kind cover/tshirt?
A: it's an old picture from our mothers home town.. We tracked them down through our grandfather and we went through around 4000 pictures. We chose the ones that made you ask questions, instead of the ones that answered them.
Sum up your career in 15 words or less.
A: still crawling up that steep mountain, while reminding ourselves to stop and enjoy the view.
Why are you making music and not, say, flower arrangements?
A: I've never really been into gardening, so I guess that's why.. Music also lasts a lot longer than a flower bouquet.
S: Our father also played music in his youth, but music wasn't really a big thing in our childhood. I think we felt a bit trapped in our small community, and needed a way to express ourselves. I can't really answer why music became the weapon of choice.
Who influenced your style and the sound of yours?
A: Both of us listened to a lot of different music, but in the infant years of the band we didn't know anything other than the classics and we just started playing. After our first show, someone came up and said we reminded him of Birthday Party and 16 Horsepower - never heard about it, but then we started to dig into it.. When you start unfolding the layers of music you really just get deeper and deeper and you quickly find out that there isn't that much difference between all these genres and boxes we've created.. Metal and classical, jazz and post punk - the energy can feel the same..
Have you ever had problems with your band name?
A: A long time ago we were offered to play in a French prison, but we didn't get it because of the name.. I would love to play in a prison..
Best thing about being in a band?
A: Lots of people and lots of work
And worst?
A: lots of people and lots of work.
Have you ever been to Prague?
A: I haven't, but I'm really looking forward to it.
S: We had to cancel our shows in Prague and Roznov on our last European tour because of health issues. Canceling shows is really not a thing we like to do, so it feels good to be able to come Prague this summer instead.
