Heavy rock legends Deep Purple played a private show to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, 45, at the ardent heavy metal fan’s private residence outside Moscow.
Some months earlier the President invited prime minister Vladimir Putin to his home for a traditional Russian breakfast of milk and brown bread, at which sharp eyed bloggers spotted his €150,000 stereo system after photos emerged on the net. This week, President Medvedev received a warmer reception, as did the British rockers for what was their second meeting with their number one fan.
"Of course when I started listening to Deep Purple I could not imagine that I would be sitting here with you at this table like this," he reportedly told Ian Gillan (Interfax).
Belgium techno producer Marco Bailey also chatted about his long term passion for Deep Purple in an interview with skrufff recently declaring “I continue to have the greatest respect for singers and real musicians – guitar, sax – or whichever instrument, they are still a step higher than me as just a DJ’.
Italo-house producer Christian Hornbostel aka Virtualissimo similarly spoke of his passion for heavy metal in an interview with Skrufff some years ago.
“I was obsessed with rock and funk when I was growing up and concentrated mainly on these. Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin were my favourite bands, especially later on in their careers,” said Christian.
“Actually, the more recent Deep Purple albums were very funky, because they had been seduced by the American sound. I was also into Santana, Isley Brothers and American disco too,” he added.
