Present yourself in three sentences.
I live and work in a small city in India. I have a curse of having a quality of mind that I can best describe as ‘sticky’. And I feel at home when I listen to Indian classical music, even though I’m without the tools to decipher it formally.
Present your work of art at the Prague Biennale.
The three works in the Prague Biennale have been made at different times in the past years. They all try to illustrate a personal story, describing different moments of an imagined journey.
What is your (favorite) technique? Can you describe it?
A lot of my work is made though repetition and layering, I don’t know if there is a name of a technique for it. Many of my images function at two distances, one from far away and one from close by, this I achieve by layering patterns in specific ways.
Do you think that one has to understand art to appreciate a work of art?
I do not understand a lot of art but I am able to appreciate some of it.
Do you think there is a specificity of Indian contemporary art?
I feel a lot of Indian art uses narrative. I feel this comes from a history of learning through stories.
Where did you have exhibitions and where will you have the next one (s)?
I have, with another artist just closed an exhibition in Vienna. I have another three person show coming up in Bangalore in July.
What do you “against the gray”?
To be really honest – perhaps very little of any real consequence.
