Local authorities in Leeds have ‘permanently’ revoked the license of Gatecrasher Leeds after police complained about violence at the 1,200 capacity club.

The superclub remains open for business and Gatecrasher boss Simon Raines issued an immediate appeal to challenge the license cancellation.

"Gatecrasher acknowledges that its Friday night events had attracted a minority of undesirable elements, which led to an increase in general crime and disorder. These events, specifically We Play Vinyl nights, were cancelled with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement.

"Gatecrasher was satisfied that removing We Play Vinyl nights from the club would eliminate any associated incidents from the club but in order to ensure the complete safety of clubbers amended existing operational policies and procedures,” they added.

Police closed the club for a week in January after a 17 year old youth was stabbed and called for the club to be shut down.

"The last thing we want to do is risk harming our city's night-time economy by closing premises down, but our priority is keeping the public safe and we can't do this by turning a blind eye to crime and disorder,” West Yorkshire police chief
Vernon Francis told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"We have regularly tried to work with the club to address the issues affecting them but have been left with no option other than to request the closure and to apply to review the licence." (http://bit.ly/f7GCPT )
