Interview: Sun Glitters

Sun Glitters. A band from Luxemburg with lots of dreamy melodies and melancholic vocal. We asked the man behing this project, Victor Ferreira, about his upcoming gig in Prague (May 1, (A)void Floating Gallery) and the scene in his country.

As you are surely aware, there are not many world famous bands coming forum Luxembourg. Is there some sort of a scene? What are the place to go? And what is your country like for you?

Yes, there is a scene in Luxembourg, more rock I would say. But for sure, music is growing and we have a good quality of bands in every genre.
My favourite places are the Exit07 and the Gudde Wëllen, also more appropriate to my genre of music.
Luxembourg means a lot to me as I was born there and spray all my childhood there.

Your band name is about light and what it does, your videos and photos also have a special visual quality and play with reflections and such. Is it some sort of a concept, or is it just something fascinating that you have to use and inspect?

Everything involved around Sun Glitters is important and of course the identity has a big role. It's the first approach that someone will mostly have before starting to listen to the music. I'm really happy that I found the right image to fit with the music. It's a concept yes but also something I like to do, graphic design, so... ;)

You played in the Czech Republic before. What are your memories of visiting it - not just of the gig but maybe as a whole?

Actually it's been a long time and I'm happy to come back again as I remember having a great time there. People were nice to me but unfortunately it was a short time and didn't have time to visit much.

What was your musical trajectory, when did you decide to form a band and then when did you try to make it as a professional musician?

Everything started in 1996. I played bass in several bands. And in 1998 I started to be interested in electronic music when I discovered bands like Massive Attack and Portishead. Everything happened very naturally. I always believed in what I was doing and in 2011 a dream came true. So I decided to risk it, left my work for a try and I'm really glad that I took this decision.

Do you still produce mixtapes?

Yes, but less than before. It's fun creating mixtapes. It's a way to share the music I like, my influences.

What do you do when not making music?

Spending time with my lovely family of course, drawing and graphic design.

What are your tips to combat the lack of sleep and relaxation when you are on tour?

There are no real tips I guess as everyone is different and also depending on how you are travelling etc... But my way is mostly listen to music and thinking about the show of the day before for example. Sometimes watching movies or drawing... It depends really.

Any new releases or maybe collars on the way? Will you be using female vocals again?

The Galaxy Ep is still a fresh release and I'm really happy with the result and the collaboration with Sarah P. I'm working on my new album and can't tell you now how it will really sound and if there will be new collaborations or not. Lets see...
