Leading Ibiza nightlife character and music industry mogul Samuel Guetta has been found dead at his villa, passing away last Thursday (July 19) of so far unexplained causes. Sam, who leaves behind a wife and two young children, was just 40.
As well as launching and running leading dance music portal Ibiza-Voice, Samuel played a key role in transforming Luciano and Cadenza into global superstar DJ brands culminating in the ultra-successful launch of Vagabundos at Pacha in 2010. Prior to that, he also set up equally successful promotion and booking company Freak n Chic with Dan Ghenacia, helping to popularise today’s uber-successful underground house sound purveyed by the likes of Shonky and Jamie Jones.
His colleagues at Ibiza-voice published a moving tribute to Samuel describing him as a ‘true original- one of the most charismatic, passionate, excitable, energetic, endearing, infuriating, inimitable human beings we ever had the privilege to know.’
“Samuel was a walking exclamation mark who whirled through rooms trailing cigarette smoke and superlatives. It could drive you crazy,” they recalled.
“He had a fiery temper and argued as hard as he partied but he was so charming that even when you were furious you couldn’t stay mad at him.” (Ibiza-Voice: http://bit.ly/MdRO7f )
Fellow Ibiza nightlife pioneer Claire Manumission also paid tribute via Facebook, declaring ‘Rest in Peace Sam. With love and respect from the Manumission Family’ as did island impresario Tim Sheridan.
“Many of us owe Samuel a debt,” said Tim. “Rest In Peace dude.”
Samuel also helped me as I launched my DJ career in 2004, regularly hosting my DJ mixes on Ibiza-voice for a number of years and introducing me to a much larger audience in the process. He was a visionary, a leader, a tastemaker, an inspiration and a man who made things happen. Rest in peace.”
