Transfer extending beyond state borders, times and cultures; the pulse of the world that became the contemporary "beat to keep". Our hearts pound with sharing. Former hierarchy of arteries and limits is slowly diminishing in the labyrinth of connections; we are entering a new democracy of information equality. A new humanistic ideal appears above the sea level - a person ultimately absolutely acquainted, the one who saw everything possible.
The CONTAIN[ERA] project is based on the diversity of cultures, it aims to bridge the lines between countries, generations, between reality and virtuality.
After all, what is it that always united fragmented Europe? There was only one thing capable of building long-term bridges that European union now strives to preserve: culture, and art, integrated in its diversity. A new, very specific place appeared on the horizon lately, a space able to maintain the individuality of particularities while building a worldwide web - the Internet. Virtual "global" versus "local" preserve integrity even in a space without limits.
In the course of the CONTAIN[ERA] project, we introduced eight young artistsfrom eight European cities in an assembly of eight shipping containers turned into mobile galleries. These original exhibition spaces travelled throughout Europe as closed, information capsules; representing artistic perspectives of each country, as a synecdoche. Through themeansof the Internet, they carried, unplugged, replanted and implanted again the message in different contexts.
CONTAIN[ERA] EXPO
Two weeks-long joint exhibition plays a panoramic shot for the viewer. It will be a personal meeting over the unbelievable sharing of an experience come to life. It will be the first and last chance to see the diversity united at one place. It will be the moment of connection of European cultural variety.
All the exhibition containers will come to Prague, the center of the impulse, accompanied by participating artists, gallerists, curators, theorists and other expert public from partnering countries. From the point of viewer this is the catharsis of the project.
The EXPO, taking place in a friendly environment of the Mystic Skate park on the Štvanice island, will consist not only of the exhibitions but also of rich accompanying program - e.g. audio-visual performance of the Italian artist Carlo Zanni or a concert of Slovak singer Katarzia. Furthermore, a two days-long conference with international experts will take place in the Vila Štvanice venue, where the topics of post-Internet art will be discussed. Lectures and talks will be held not only by the theorists but also by the participating artists.
