Red Gallery presents a book Making Something Out Of Nothing

Celebrating 4 and half years of RED's cultural revolution in the centre of Shoreditch, RED GALLERY presents MAKING SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING - a book and exhibition of prints cataloguing RED's role as cultural guardians, enabling communities and iconoclasts to transform derelict buildings into the magic of art studios, galleries, live events venues, creative offices, screening rooms, open air venue, street food market and bars.

Designed by the hugely respected Jason Kedgely of the Tomato Group, the aesthetic of the book is reminiscent of early i-D, reflecting the fearless saboteur spirit of the founders Ernesto Leal, Yarda Krampol and director Giuseppe Percuoco.

These founders have witnessed the true cultural value of the gallery since 2010, facilitating live music, arts, exhibition and film. They have turned an empty 30,000 sq ft property in Central Shoreditch into an unprecedented cultural laboratory. The introductory essay written by prize-winning Kirsty Allinson explores Red’s maverick pop-up financing approach. The active involvement in providing creative space for artists and tech-ups alike, creates a reciprocal ‘cultural guardianship’ model which allows self-sustainability whilst still pushing the boundaries of art and performance.

The building itself, aside the world's largest Banksy, has already become integral to East London’s history. The book contains interviews with thirty of East London's key exponents and iconoclasts from various sectors discussing their relationship with the area and how a space enabling pure creative freedom puts a value on cultural heritage. Spaces such as Red Gallery give an authentic cultural claim to encourage investment and tourism.

RED GALLERY are giving away 2000 copies of their photographic history of the proejct, ‘MAKING SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING’, discussing the cultural influence on and of East London and their groundbreaking self-supporting financial structure.

Making Something Out Of Nothing was launched with a photo exhibition, and the opportunity to pick up a copy of the book, from 6pm on 20th November 2014 at the Red Gallery. More info: www.redgallerylondon.com.
