Extrawelt: Two guys and plenty of knobs.

Extrawelt are a well-known german musical duo - they play Prague's Roxy this Friday April 21 and we bring you an interview just in time...
What were your musical heroes when you were a teenager?
Arne: There were lots.. at some point it was a lot of hip hop like Public Enemy, Run DMC, EPMD, De La Soul and Boogie Down Productions. After i discovered some Rock/Punk stuff like Suicidal Tendencies, Fugazi, Pixies and always around were the 60’s heroes like Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin and many others.. It seemed like a slow process in a long period of time back then and now in the aftermath it was all happening in just a few years and then came already Techno in all its different facets.
 
Did you go to lot and lots of parties?
Sure, as many as there were in that time. It took a couple of years until the parties happened every weekend and whenever somebody knew the place and date when the next party would happen it was very exciting and kind of a secrecy about it where one never knew what to expect.
 
Your weirdest club experience?
My first parties were all at open air locations and then my very first club experience was probably also the strangest. It was just very intense for me, so loud, so dark, sweaty, weirdly dressed people in an ecstatic state of mind, nothing but strobo, fog and hardcore techno and maybe i was a little too young. 
 
What got you hooked on dance music?
It was mostly those experiences on the first parties but then also at home when gathering the first tapes, recording the few radio shows etc. I’d sometimes go even more crazy at home with friends about it where we felt safe and secure and dared to dance even wilder than on the parties.
 
What do you think about the comeback of vinyl?
That is very nice to see. We are definitely vinyl enthusiasts and appreciate the sound and feel of a good vinyl pressing. Since our very first releases we insisted on having a vinyl release and we will continue to do that.
 
What is your most prized possession?
That would be our Studer desk although we got it for a good price second hand.
 
Now i see your page (extrawelt website) redirects to Midimiliz, why are you now so active under this moniker again?
Actually we are not at all active as Midimiliz, it is on hold since we really started Extrawelt. We just never managed to make a new website for Extrawelt but maybe one day in the near future.
